Gripset General Purpose Primer

Gripset GP is a unique multipurpose 2 in 1 primer and bonding agent. It serves as a primer to enhance the surface adhesion of Gripset membranes and tile adhesives. Additionally, as a bonding agent, Gripset GP improves the bonding strength of cement-based compounds while enhancing the water-resistant properties of screeds, renders, mortars, cement-based slurries, grouts, and cement-based adhesives. It is suitable for areas exposed to water, harsh climatic conditions, and fully immersed areas.

Features & Benefits

As a Primer

  • Excellent adhesion over porous surfaces
  • Fast drying, enabling membrane application to be carried out after 20-30 minutes
  • Economical surface coverage of up to 1 litre per 8m²
  • Fully compatible with Gripset membranes, general tile adhesives, renders, mortars, and screeds
  • Suitable for internal and external applications

As a Bonding Agent

  • Improved bond strength in areas subject to moisture, weather, or immersion
  • Improved water resistance properties
  • Improved crack, frost, and salt resistance
  • Improved durability

Gripset GP Substrates

Gripset GP is suitable for bonding over the following substrates:

  • Concrete, masonry surfaces, renders, and screeds
  • Concrete blocks and aerated concrete
  • Cement sheeting, plasterboard, and general wet area linings
  • Marine plywood and wet area particle board
  • Existing acrylic coatings and Gripset membranes

Before using Gripset GP over existing paints, membranes, coatings, or other surface finishes, please contact the technical department of Gripset Industries for correct advice on surface preparation and suitability.

Surface Preparation

Before commencing application, surfaces must be thoroughly prepared. Here are the general guidelines:

  • All substrates must be structurally sound, smooth, stable, dry, and clean
  • Rough surfaces and voids should be evened or filled first, and all brick/block surfaces should be pointed flush (refer to Gripset 11Y for concrete/masonry repairs)
  • All general surface defects should be repaired
  • Building surfaces must be constructed according to the manufacturer's recommendations and relevant building standards
  • All surfaces should be free of sharp protruding objects, loose material, de-bonded coatings, curing membranes/agents, release agents, wax residues, foreign particles, laitance, algae and moss, grime, oils, animal fats, or grease remains
  • Structurally unsound layers and surface contaminants should be mechanically removed by abrasive blasting, blast tracking, grinding, or equivalent methods

Storage Conditions

  • Best stored at room temperature
  • Avoid cold freezing conditions and off concrete floors
  • Do not store in direct sunlight
  • Shelf life: 12 months in an unopened container

Notes: It is recommended to test the adhesion of products to be used (e.g., primers, membranes, coatings, adhesives, etc.) over a typical area of the prepared surface before commencing the application to ensure satisfactory adhesion. The responsibility lies with the applicator to carry out this test and confirm the substrate suitability before starting any application. For further details or to avail the service for pre-testing adhesion to surfaces, please contact Gripset Industries.
