Duram Azcothane is a high-performance water-based polyurethane dispersion fortified acrylic hybrid waterproofing membrane. It is designed for demanding applications such as exposed, under tile, underground, and immersed waterproofing. Azcothane meets various industry standards and criteria, including wet area membranes, external above-ground use, resistance to ultraviolet, and environmental criteria.

Product Characteristics:

  • Colour: White
  • Sizes: 15 Litres

Uses

  • Balconies
  • Terraces
  • Decks
  • Podiums
  • Tiled or covered areas
  • Metal roofs
  • Roofs (UV-exposed)
  • Shower recess & wet areas
  • Retaining walls
  • Planters and landscaped areas
  • Structural slabs
  • Pits and bunded areas
  • Door flashings

Suitable Surfaces

Azcothane is suitable for a wide range of surfaces, including concrete, cement and cement render, FC and CFC sheeting, block & brickwork, masonry/stone, FC, CFC, asbestos and Blue board sheeting, particle board, Scyon & composite sheeting, acrylic coatings, vitreous, ceramic & terra cotta tiles, bitumen (when primed with Duram Primeseal MC), metal (when primed with Duram ME Primer), timber, particle board, plywood (when primed with Duram Primeseal MC), masonite, plasterboard, extruded foam, and fibreglass/gelcoat/PVC. Duram provides recommended priming methods for these surfaces.

Benefits and Advantages

  • Azcothane is a feature-packed polyurethane dispersion fortified acrylic hybrid waterproofing membrane.
  • Single pack (no mixing) easy to apply anti-sag technology.
  • Rapid cure.
  • Not hazardous and not flammable. Water-based.
  • UV resistant.
  • Low VOC levels. Meets environmental criteria.
  • Permanently flexible with excellent flexibility.
  • Bitumen and tar-free, does not stain grout or tiles.
  • Self-leveling 100% bonded seamless membrane with no joints or laps.
  • Suitable for immersion in water.
  • Excellent chemical and positive hydrostatic resistance.
  • Tough, durable, and puncture resistant.
  • Easily repaired and maintained.
  • Easy to apply and odourless when cured.
  • Suitable for use in confined spaces.
  • Provides long-term protection and inhibits mould and biological growth.
  • Australian made with a long history of Australian use.
  • Overcoat with Virotuff for trafficable areas and extended UV protection.
  • Meets Class III High Extensibility classification.
  • Can be installed in accordance with wet area and exterior membrane applications.
  • Safe to use and does not re-emulsify once fully cured.
  • Will not stain grout or tiles.
  • Formulated for wet area and under tile use, compatible with most tile adhesives.
  • Can be rendered with polymer render and standard render (with bonding additive).

Limitations

  • Azcothane is not designed as a trafficable membrane, although infrequent maintenance foot-traffic is acceptable during the construction phase.
  • Azcothane is not suitable for direct contact with high concentrations of chlorine.
  • Azcothane cannot be applied directly to wet surfaces, as it may cause gassing and bubbling of the membrane.
  • Azcothane can be applied to slightly damp surfaces, provided the surface is free from surface water and prolonged dampness.
  • Azcothane is not designed as a trafficable membrane, although infrequent maintenance foot-traffic is acceptable. A protective coat of Duram Virotuff is recommended in trafficable areas.

Coverage

Coverage rates may vary depending on the type, condition, porosity, texture of the surface, and application technique. The minimum coverage rate is 1.7L/m² or 0.85L/m² per coat. A 15 Lt pail will cover 18 m² for 1 coat at 0.5mm DFT. For water-resistant non-tanking walls, the minimum coverage is 0.85L/m² at 0.5mm DFT. The dry film thickness of the membrane on floors and tanking areas should be 1.0mm DFT with each coat being 500 microns dry film (0.5mm DFT).

Drying and Curing

Drying and curing times are affected by the type, dryness, and porosity of the surface, temperature, humidity, ventilation, climate conditions, and application technique. As a guide, at 25ºC and 50% RH, the touch dry time is 2 to 4 hours per coat, set time is 12 hours, and full cure time is 24 hours per coat. Ensure the membrane is fully cured before tiling or topping. Azcothane is generally touch dry within 2 to 4 hours and fully cured after 24 hours. Recoat between 4-24 hours.

Clean-up

Avoid spills. Wet spills can be cleaned with water, but they may be difficult to clean on porous surfaces. On concrete and non-porous surfaces, use a cloth and water for wet spills. Do not clean off carpets as it is better to allow the product to cure and then shave the carpet. Equipment should be immediately cleaned with water.

Storage and Packaging

Store Azcothane in a cool, dry place away from heat and freezing. The product is not flammable. It is available in 4 Lt and 15 Lt pails, with 15 liters equating to 16 kg. Shelf life is 12 months in an unopened container.
