Bostik 6S is a one-component, non-flowing, neutral cure, mid modulus silicone sealant. It contains an effective fungicide to reduce the growth of mold and mildew. The neutral curing system makes it more pleasant to work with, especially in confined spaces. This sealant offers excellent adhesion to powder coated metal and does not slump in typical construction joints due to its thixotropic nature.
Meets the standard of NZFSA – C82.
Silicones may not be compatible with plasticized sealants such as butyls. Additionally, some backing rods and glazing tapes contain bitumen or other agents that are incompatible with silicone. Always perform compatibility tests when in contact with potentially incompatible materials to avoid discolouration, poor sealant cure, or long-term degradation. Ensure that the surfaces to be sealed are dry, oil-free, and free from dirt and grease. Use the two-wipe process for impervious substrates, using clean cloths and suitable cleaner/solvent such as Z Bond® R-40 or IPA. When extruding the sealant, cut the nozzle to the desired width, apply the sealant firmly to ensure good contact between the sealant and the substrate. Tool off the sealant before it skins over to achieve a good finish and improve wetting out of the sealant to the substrate. For satisfactory adhesion, a primer may be required for some substrates. Consult Bostik or your distributor for more information.
Bostik 6S cures by absorbing atmospheric moisture. It will skin over in 8–10 minutes and cure to a depth of 7mm in 7 days.
Bostik 6S is not suitable for the following applications:
This sealant is not paintable. Do not clean or treat the sealant with materials, cleaning agents, or solvents that may affect or discolor the sealant, particularly during product curing.
Remove excess silicone using a clean cloth or polyethylene scraper. Do not use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean around uncured sealant. Cured silicone can only be mechanically removed.
Always store the sealant in a cool, dry place with an ideal storage temperature not exceeding 25°C. Prolonged storage at high temperatures may affect shelf life and ultimate performance. The shelf life of Bostik 6S is 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored below 25°C and below 50% relative humidity.
