Gripset OP Primer - For Non-Porous Surfaces

Gripset OP is a solvent-free primer designed to enhance adhesion on metals, non-porous, dense, and smooth substrates. It's suitable for both vertical and horizontal surfaces, eliminating the need for harsh etching or solvents. Gripset OP is ideal for preparing surfaces for the application of Gripset membrane coatings, adhesives, and mortars, ensuring a strong bond on challenging substrates.

Suitable Substrates

• Metals (galvanised iron, Zincalume, aluminium, stainless steel, copper, brass, treated steel, Colorbond)
• Precast and tilt-up concrete, glass-reinforced concrete
• Hardwood and dense timber surfaces
• Existing ceramic tiles, vitrified tiles, and natural stone
• Brickwork (clay and concrete)
• Compressed cement sheeting, plasterboard surfaces
• James Hardie™ Scyon™ Secura™ external/internal flooring
• Polymer mortars, synthetic mortars, smooth self-levelling compounds

Application Guide

1. Surface Preparation:
   • Ensure the substrate is structurally sound, stable, smooth, dry, and clean.
   • Repair defects, fill voids, and ensure brick/block surfaces are pointed flush (refer to Gripset 11Y/DM repair mortar).
   • Remove any sharp objects, loose materials, coatings, contaminants, or residues that may compromise adhesion.
2. Application and Coverage:
   • Stir product well before use.
   • Apply using a low/medium nap roller or long bristle brush.
   • Ensure even coverage on the treated surface.
   • On smooth, non-porous surfaces, apply a minimum of 1 litre/12m² per coat.
   • On absorbent surfaces, up to 1 litre/8m² per coat may be required.
   • For tiling over existing tiles in non-wet areas, apply two coats of OP Primer.

Limitations

• Not suitable as a primer for areas with rising moisture or negative hydrostatic pressure.
• Not designed as a trafficable or exposed surface finish.
• Not suitable for use under solvent-based materials (adhesives, coatings, paints).
• Ensure primer is dry before applying subsequent membranes, coatings, or adhesives.
• When tiling over existing tiles in wet areas, a suitable under-tile membrane system must be applied over OP Primer.
