Gripset P39 - UV Stable Waterproofing Membrane

GRIPP39GREY/15

Gripset P39 is a highly versatile, fibre-enhanced membrane designed for a wide range of applications, both under tiles and as an exposed membrane. Engineered with advanced hybrid polyurethane technology, it offers superior flexibility, elasticity, and tensile strength. P39's outstanding waterproofing properties and low water vapour transmission make it ideal for areas exposed to early water ponding and continuous moisture, as it won't re-emulsify.

Compliant with Australian Standards AS 4858:2004 and AS4654.2:2012 for internal wet areas, P39 provides exceptional adhesion for subsequent finishes like renders, screeds, and tile adhesives. It's also UV resistant and anti-fungal, making it suitable for long-term protection of external substrates against harsh weather conditions.

Uses & Applications

  • Exposed membrane finish on roofs
  • Parapet waterproofing
  • Protection of external surfaces subject to constant weather
  • Waterproofing under screeds and toppings on roofs
  • Internal wet areas (bathrooms, laundries, tiled areas)
  • Balconies, decks, podiums, terrace floors
  • General tiled areas for moisture prevention

Suitable Substrates

  • Concrete, render, and masonry
  • Fibre cement sheeting, plasterboard, and structural sheeting
  • Wet area timber sheeting and exterior-grade plywood
  • Aerated concrete panels and blocks

Benefits

  • Highly flexible and elastomeric
  • Low vapour transmission and water absorption
  • Excellent adhesion
  • Outstanding weather resistance
  • Resists early ponding water
  • Withstands permanently wet conditions without re-emulsification
  • Resistant to fungi and algae
  • Low dirt retention
  • Light foot trafficable
  • Solvent-free and non-hazardous

Application Guide

  1. Surface Preparation:
    • Ensure the surface is structurally sound, smooth, stable, dry, and clean.
    • Fill and level any rough surfaces or voids using Gripset 11Y (for concrete or masonry).
    • Repair all surface defects.
    • Remove any sharp objects, loose material, old coatings, curing agents, residues, or other contaminants.
  2. Priming (Choose one):
    • Xpress Primer H20 Plus: For rooftop applications, green/damp concrete, screeds, and mineral surfaces with residual moisture.
    • Gripset GP Primer: For general porous surfaces (apply 1 litre per 6m² and allow to dry).
    • Gripset OP Primer: For non-porous, smooth, and dense surfaces (apply 1 litre per 12m² and allow to dry).
    • Gripset 11Y Slurry: For asphalt/bitumen surfaces and existing coatings.
    • Gripset P10 or E60 Primer: For rooftop applications or surfaces prone to rising damp (refer to individual datasheets and allow 24 hours drying time).
  3. Detailing:
    • Correctly seal and detail all critical areas (joints, junctions, movement zones, penetrations, drainage points, and cracks) before applying the membrane.
    • Use appropriate sealants and reinforcements (e.g., Gripset SB, Gripset RF, Elastoproof Joint Band, Elastoproof Collars).
  4. Membrane Application:
    • Apply a minimum of two coats to achieve a dried film thickness of 1-1.2mm (three coats for flat roofs, 1.3mm DFT).
    • Apply subsequent coats in different directions.
    • Coverage varies depending on surface conditions.
    • Apply using a medium nap roller or brush.

Limitations

  • Do not apply if rain is imminent.
  • Do not apply to glass, glazed surfaces, or in temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C.
  • Not suitable as a sealant for expansion or control joints.
  • Do not use in areas subject to negative hydrostatic pressure or where solvents/petroleum products may be spilled.
  • All finishing coats over this membrane must be solvent-free.

Additional Information

  • Allow 72 hours of drying for flood testing.
  • Product is available in 15-litre pails.
  • Technical data available on drying times, specific gravity, and more.
